PRE & COMMISSIONING TESTS

We offer a series of qualitative offline and online tests for pre and post commissioning of transformers to the established standards. Pre and Post Commissioning tests include condition assessment of transformer windings to verify the safe transportation of the transformer from factory to work site, assessment of insulation’s dryness prior to commissioning, correct erection and installation bushings and CTs, verification of protection circuits, correct operation of tap-changer and other auxiliaries including Buchholz relay, Pressure Relief Valves, etc.

Our toolbox is equipped with test instruments having best in class reliability, repeatability and has the highest track record of timely delivery.

RESIDUAL LIFE ASSESSMENT (RLA)

In general, transformers such as Generator Transformers, Station Transformers and Inter-connecting Transformer are required to be highly reliable so that operational as well as safety risks at site are minimized. In order to ensure transformer’s reliability, it is vital to assess the extent of aging and early identification of emerging faults. We offer a suite of tests referred to as Residual Life Assessment which helps in assessing remaining useful life of a given transformer.

This program has been designed with operational safety and reliability in mind. It allows the asset owners to take timely decisions to help resolve the issue by enacting necessary repairs, refurbishment or replacement.

The RLA test program employs a selection of tests including electrical tests, oil-paper related tests to assess the insulation degradation as well as online Partial Discharge test on the transformer. Such tests reveal adequate information pertaining to insulation degradation and remaining life left.

It is best suited for large power transformers, Generator Transformers in particular. However, the program can be applied to any critical transformer to make an assessment of its remaining useful life.

ONLINE SCREENING OF LARGER ASSET BASE

A very detailed life assessment program is a thorough condition assessment tool for transformers. But there are instances where only condition screening is preferred, generally because of larger asset base and the total costs involved. We suggest a purposefully crafted an online screening program which employs minimal tests but still yields very useful and actionable information without stretching budgets any further.

FAULT FINDING & DIAGNOSTICS SERVICES

Transformers are susceptible to various ad-hoc issues and faults which may or may not be driven by generalized aging. These may include faults with the windings, tap-changer, bushings, core, etc. We offer specialized fault finding and diagnostics services to identify a possible cause and to help formulate a repair or refurbishment strategy.

SUBSTATION APPARATUS

We offer a host of testing and diagnostics services for substation apparatus including Current Transformers, Potential Transformers,  CB,CVTS and Lightening Arrestors etc.

PRE & POST COMMISSIONING TESTS

This includes various electrical tests such as Capacitance & Tan Delta, Insulation Resistance, Ratio, etc.

CONDITION ASSESSMENT

Together with the routine electrical tests mentioned above, we employ online, non-intrusive Partial Discharge Detection techniques to help identify and insulation defects in a live substation.

LEAKAGE CURRENT MEASUREMENT FOR MOSA LIGHTNING ARRESTORS

Metal Oxide Surge Arrestors (MOSA) is being used across the industry for the protection of vital apparatus from the lightening and external surges. However, these arresters are susceptible to deterioration causing an increase in resistive leakage current flowing through the arrestors.

Online Leakage Current Measurement method uses Third Harmonic Resistive Current measurement principle, a technique which is rated as the most advanced for field monitoring as per IEC 60099-5.

Additionally PD detection is also offered to identify the emerging defects and internal tracking and discharges caused by moisture ingress and contamination. Measurement method offers a quick, non-contact and effective way of monitoring Lightning Arrestors in the field which helps reduce the failure risk and eliminates the safety hazard.

PARTIAL DISCHARGE DETECTION

Condition of the insulation materials in electrical equipments plays a major role in determining equipment reliability as well as serviceability. Insulation materials are subjected to various stresses including electrical, thermal and chemical. This can lead to a partial breakdown of the insulation which causes further degradation. This is commonly referred to as Partial Discharge or PD.

PD measurement or detection is an effective way to assess the type and level of degradation that the insulation is suffering from. Using appropriate PD methods enables timely identification of major issues and hence help determine suitable timescales for necessary intervention, whether it is repair or replacement.

RANGE OF PARTIAL DISCHARGE TECHNIQUES

We offer various PD detection and measurements methods which not only help identify emerging defects but also help in monitoring the issue either on a periodic basis or a continuous 24/7 basis.

Offline method – Electrical Measurement in line with IEC 60270. Applicable for Power Transformers, Current Transformers and Voltage Transformers

Online method – UHF and Acoustic based methods using suitable coupling devices and sensors. These methods can be applied for online surveillance of substations, online monitoring of large power transformers, GIS system, Metal-clad switchgear etc.

ACOUSTIC PD TESTING OF TRANSFORMERS (AE BASED PARTIAL DISCHARGE DETECTION)

Electrical Multi-Channel Acoustic Emission Technique measures Acoustic Emissions in 100KHz to 400KHz (Sound) without any electrical connections.
Transformers with thermal faults or having high PD activity can be classified as having a greater risk of failure. Once PD activity has been detected, the defects which are causing the PD need to be located and an remedial measures to be applied (Repair, Replace, PD monitoring etc...)
Acoustic Emission PD test on Transformers is very powerful method for condition assessment and fault diagnosis.
The AE methods are relatively immune to electromagnetic influences in live substation; hence the same can be effectively used at site for condition monitoring purpose.
Application:  Pinpointing of fault in transformer PD or Thermal or Arcing faults, Fault location in GIS system, Condition assessment of CT or CB

ROTATING MACHINES

We offer condition assessment solutions for generators and industrial motors.

INSULATION ASSESSMENT OF WINDINGS

This is carried through Capacitance & Tan Delta and Partial Discharge Measurement of generator and motor windings. We provide an option of offline as well as online measurements by way of suitable de-coupling devices to help obtain PD signals from the generator windings.
PD solutions provide the options to either implement a periodic monitoring system or a continuous 24/7 monitoring system with built-in alarms and warning functions.

DIAGNOSTICS SOLUTIONS FOR GIS

Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) has been increasingly commissioned across the industry, especially where available space is scarce and costs are increasingly high.

However, this relatively new HV technology is not immune to problems. Contamination, protrusion and SF6 pressure/density loss are examples are some of the issues that can significantly affect the reliability of GIS equipment.
Our diagnostics solutions for GIS include identification of defects and faults related to particle contamination, protrusion, etc.

through the use of suitable Partial Discharge Detection & Monitoring methods. Our services also include assessment of SF6 gas dryness through the measurement of dew point.
